There are evenings that entertain, and evenings that transport.

Some evenings simply cannot be replicated.
Last night’s Gypsy Jazz Jam was one of them.

Last night, The Meredith House became something altogether different. Cocktails flowed from the bar and the unmistakable sounds of Gypsy Jazz drifted through the House as members and guests found themselves transported to the cafés and hidden clubs of Paris circa 1938.
TMH member Cal Lude gathered several musically inclined friends for an informal Gypsy Jazz jam session inspired by the lively music of pre-war Paris. Featuring acoustic guitars, fiddle, upright bass, and spirited improvisation, the evening captured the energy and intimacy of the great Left Bank cafés.
There was no stage. No set list. No program.
Just music.
As musicians traded melodies and rhythms, conversations softened and members settled into velvet chairs with handcrafted cocktails in hand. The atmosphere felt less like an event and more like discovering a hidden jazz club tucked away down a Paris side street.
The sounds of Django Reinhardt and the tradition of Gypsy Jazz have always carried a unique magic—equal parts sophistication, spontaneity, and joy. Last night, that spirit found a home at The Meredith House.
The evening embodied exactly what makes The Meredith House special. Rather than simply hosting entertainment, the House creates opportunities for members to share their talents, passions, and interests with one another. When members become performers, hosts, and collaborators, the experience becomes deeply personal.
The intimate setting, and exceptional musicianship created an atmosphere rarely found elsewhere in Northern Virginia.
As one song flowed into the next, time seemed to slow. The boundaries between performer and audience disappeared, replaced by something more meaningful: a shared experience among friends.
Events like Gypsy Jazz Jam reflect The Meredith House’s commitment to offering distinctive cultural experiences that bring people together. From live music and culinary events to conversations, tastings, and artistic gatherings, the House continues to cultivate a vibrant community where members can connect in authentic ways.
